Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a permit?
Whether you need a permit is determined by where it is feasible for your skip to be placed. As skips are quite large (even if you pick our smallest option!) and heavy, they can prove to be a difficult obstacle to avoid. This means that they should ideally be placed on private land (within the constraints of your garden or driveway) to avoid any interference with the public in the area around where the skip is needed. Make sure you have adequate space for the skip before our Commercial Skip Hire team delivers it to your land.
If you are unable to house a skip on your private land, then fear not. Even if you have to have your skip placed on the road near your house, this is still feasible as long as you have a permit. How do I go about getting that? You may ask, well, you don’t need to worry. Our Commercial Skip Hire will do the hard work for you and obtain a permit from the local council on your behalf.
When will the skip be picked up?
During the process of booking your skip, you will be able to choose a date and time on which you would like your skip to be delivered. From the time your skip is dropped off outside your house, we will give you a maximum of three weeks with the skip on your required premises, before collection. If you would like an extension on this three week period, then be sure to get in touch with one of the team members before your pick up date approaches, so our Commercial Skip Hire team can give you some extra time at an added fee.
If you would like your skip to be collected by a member of the Commercial Skip Hire team before the three week period is up, simply give us a call on 01204 698 153 during our opening hours of Monday – Friday 7:00am – 5:30pm and we will arrange to pick up your skip as soon as possible, with no fuss attached! This allows the whole process to be smooth and efficient, with no unnecessary hold ups.

What is a Skip Permit and when do you need one?
Skip Hire Permit Prices – Before you place a skip on any public highway or road (including a pavement), you need to have a skip permit from the local council. Skip permits exist to control how many skips are placed on the road because they take up space and can impact parking and traffic flow. Not having a skip permit is unlawful, you can be liable to a fine, and the skip could be removed at any time. There is no requirement for a permit if you put a skip on private land, such as your driveway, field, or private road. For more details, see our Skip Permit Prices.
